Local notes report ongoing repairs, visits, and events. Residents travel to Springfield Canton St. Louis and Kansas, with revivals, church services, and a variety of social visits and announcements. Mansfield fair plans include speakers, baseball, and a free attraction. Millinery, store openings, and sales ads appear alongside farm and post office notes.
Geo W Arnall plans a foundry and machine shop in Mansfield moving from Mountain Grove. The plant will be east of the square, with Roy and Stephens constructing the building. Arnall expects to start business soon as construction nears completion.
The Elite Millinery Department announces a full line of ready-to-wear hats at up-to-date styles with keen prices. Besse L Reynolds invites customers to call and see the new line before buying.
The Mansfield Fair showcases Distinctive Autumn Headwear for crafted hats from Clarke's Millinery and Mrs. Anderson's Hat Shop with plans for Prof. E. M. Trent and Seymour Vocational Agriculture Class to judge livestock. W. A. Black elected Mansfield and Hartville churches delegate to the Ling conference near Ft. South, Ark.
Mansfield hosts the Wright County Agricultural Fair from September 28 to October 1 with band concerts, meetings, speeches by officials, ball games, free attractions, and parade events. Highlights include Meet the Delegations, addresses by Judge Fred Stewart and O J Page, and daily excursions by Ozark Southern Ry between Ava and Mansfield.
Miss Garnelle Haley of Mobly Mo earns $1000 cash in the Globe Democrat $7100 beauty contest and is credited as Missouri’s most beautiful girl in the district. At 17 she is the daughter of a contractor and plans to use the prize to finish her education.
The Cooking and sewing class forms a Home Economics Club to promote interest. Alton Dennis starts school Monday as students prepare exhibits for the Fair. Cole twins plan to exhibit chickens. A Friday Sept 7:30 p.m. match is set. Mr Smalley visited and spoke well, impressing the high school. Visitors welcome to see activities and support the club’s fund for new equipment.
Two seniors Misses Pauline Craig and Uia Lee Alcorn were sick. The Senior Class hosted a gathering making soap candy for uninvited guests who returned a third time. A birthday surprise for Jessie Haver preceded games and refreshments. Guests included Sylvia Brazeal Elphrea Smith Mamie Beach Blanche Alcorn Marie Norcross Margarette Boughnou Ruby Dennis Lula Ashworth Nola Boughnou Everet Newton Ned Gaines Edgar Brazeal and Vern Eumons.
The home economics club at Mansfield High School met on Tuesday September 15 with officers led by President Lorene Turner and Vice President Edith Smith. Plans were set for a stand at the Fair to boost the school and encourage patrons.
Mrs G M Hensley returns home to a surprise sixty first birthday dinner Sunday Sept 18 hosted by relatives and friends.
