Mansfield Boosters Parade At Mountain Grove Fair Gem City of Ozarks
About 200 Mansfield residents visited Mountain Grove for the stock show. A 150 foot banner proclaimed Mansfield as the Gem City of the Ozarks. Dr F H Riley led the group, wore prison garb as revenge for last year, and was briefly jailed before being released. State and local officials praised Mansfield and Riley. Mountain Grove exhibits impressed visitors, with seven blue ribbons, and tours of local creamer y and packing plants. A Springfield Leader dispatch noted Riley’s arrest by police and a mock kangaroo court meted one day of street sweeping as punishment. Speeches by Mayor Candler and others followed, with bands, songs, and a Mansfield exhibit centered on Riley’s booster role.
