A Monday afternoon cyclone roared through Mansfield causing extensive damage and injuring two. Homes, outbuildings, and prized fruit trees were demolished or scattered, with the storm uprooting trees, tearing signs, and blowing debris across streets. One boy and several residents were affected as witnesses described the fierce wind and driving rain. Local reports detail widespread destruction from Arne in Douglas County to Morris Street and the Square.
The Mansfield Public Schools closed another term on Friday with six graduates: Herve E Coday Raymond L Newton Lois E Beach Wilda E Stephens Nora B K Rusa and Bobbie E Seal. Principal was Mrs H E Newton and superintendent Prof B E Coats. The F. N. Dyer Furniture Co announces the purchase of T. F. Lenhart’s undertaking business and offers to serve the public. They admit limited experience but provide an experienced man as needed and will be found at the furniture store by day and at the residence at night, one block south. Conscription Registrars C A Stephens and W M Divan are chosen to conduct the Mansfield registration on Conscription Day Tuesday June 5. The national registration for men aged 21 to 80 is to prepare 500 000 men to be called September 1.
