Red Bird Mine Reopens In Mansfield District
The Red Bird mine is reopened with operators J. D. Reynolds N. J. Craig and A. T. Friend who leased it. A steam hoist is installed and the shaft is being cleaned as work begins to extract rich ore. The venture is hailed as one of Mansfield districts best mines while nearby activity expands. Louis Burgess moves to Thayer to work mines there after a near drowning incident in a shaft. White & Son report ore from 18 inch silicate and 12 inch lead veins on their 20 acre Spock Inna lease. Robert Newton visits from Thayer and notes abundant mineral in his range. Lead ore values and new lease deals near Mansfield attract operators, with 1000 acres recently acquired by N Rosenberg and associates of Joplin. A concentrating plant is being expanded by the R. S. & T. group including Rosenberg, Thornton, and Stough of Joplin, to process dirt on site and reduce hauling costs.

Springfield Jail Breakers Escape and Pursuit Across Greene County
Greene County authorities investigated a bold jail break at Springfield by Will Red O Daniel J M Lee Joe Ail and Roy Modist who cut through a bathroom wall and escaped last Thursday. Deputies Calhoun and Martin, aided by farmers, tracked the fugitives toward Linden Mills and Denlow before recapture efforts spread to Ava and Cold Springs. One|Watta Roger sville boy was forced to drive them and later freed near Denlow. other fugitives were captured in Norwood and Springfield as the posse closed in. The escape prompted a costly lock and key replacement and a broad manhunt lasting days.

Farmer Detective Nabs Chicken Thieves in Hartville Trial
Yesterday in Hartville the preliminary hearing for Tom Prock and Wayne Purdy charged with stealing chickens was held. Witnesses testified to a string of depredations in Wright County as Prock and Purdy were taken to jail on $500 bond. Prosecuting Attorney Jackson led for the state with defense by A M Curtis and J W Jackson, amid community demand for punishment.

Mary Young obituary at Manafield age 54
Mrs. Mary Young died Thursday afternoon at her Manafield home after a long tuberculosis illness. Rev. G W Holmes of Seymour conducted the funeral Friday afternoon. Interment was beside her husband in the cemetery next to the log church he helped build. She was a faithful M E church member and mother of seven. Our sympathies go to the bereaved.
