Sheriff Hake Killed In Hartville Horse Incident
Sheriff E C Hake of Wright County died after being kicked by a horse while inspecting a potential purchase in Hartville. He fell unconscious and died two hours later. He leaves a wife and several children. A large funeral was held. Mrs Hake was appointed sheriff for 30 days as a special election was set for March 26. Morgan Crews, former deputy, was nominated by the Republican committee to fill the unexpired term.

Obituary of James M Thirkield Honored Local Citizen
James Marion Thirkield, born November 6 1841, Monongahela City Pennsylvania, died February 26 1921 in Mansfield Missouri at 1 30 PM at age 79 years 3 months 20 days. A Civil War Union veteran and devout Methodist, he led a long business career in Xenia Ohio and Bedford Iowa before farming near Mansfield. Known as Uncle Jim, he was a Mason Eastern Star Odd Fellows and Modern Woodmen member who valued community happiness and kindness. Funeral conducted by Rev J W Paterson at the Methodist Church, Mansfield, with Masons in charge. interment in Mansfield cemetery.
