Girl From Wyoming Here Miss Alberta Claire Courtesy Springfield Republican
Miss Alberta Claire the gir from Wyoming arrived here at noon aboard Johnny Gunn a Missouri mule on a 1000 mile ride through Missouri for the St. Louis Times in the interest of good roads. She was welcomed by Mayor Burney I H Riley and many locals. She was escorted to Young's Hotel for dinner and her mount to the Hoover barn for rest. She left St. Louis on Bud but the pony fell ill and she continued on. Col J L Torrey of Fruitville gifted her the mule and she plans to ride into Kansas City and then St Louis by another route. She spoke at the city park as an honorary member of the Young Men's Business Club and shared tales of her travels across deserts plains and mountains. Her dog Mickie is left in St Louis for the heat. She weighs about pounds and carries a six shooter and cartridge belt. She departed for Seymour at 3. A mistaken report of her arrival sparked a fruitless mile horseback chase before a crowd gathered. She described Mansfield reception and the town as the Gem City of the Ozarks with a fine electric plant and upcoming water system. The Y M B C members hosted her indoors and out.
