A compendium of local moves and visits from Mansfield and surrounding towns. Residents returning from Springfield and Cabool. several going to Texas and West Plains. Concert band news, band expansion plans, and notices of pensions, banking changes, and local business ads. Also reports on crops, rainfall, and a cure for bowel trouble.
Unofficial statewide tallies indicate amendments and propositions passed with a general majority. Women’s right to hold office appears to be advancing by about 15,000 votes. Mansfield district turnout was light with total votes 155.
All interested parties are notified to meet at No 5 cemetery for cleaning and restorative work. Both men and women are invited to bring dinner and tools and spend the day August 16 under the committee's order.
O W Price, Springfield voc ed official, visited Mansfield to promote government training for disabled ex servicemen. Training pays 80 to 170 dollars monthly plus free books tools and tuition. After training, men return to War Risk Insurance payroll while disability continues. Springfield office covers 60 Missouri counties with over 2000 disabled men. write 5426 Landers Ltdg for details. The Bari Clubs host a Farm Club picnic on August 2 at Newtonford along the Gasconade river with music and entertainment. Wadsworth will speak in the forenoon and again after songs at two. Activities include swimming, potato and egg races, nail driving contests, prizes, and farm club songs. Bring wading clothes, baskets, and drinks.
Leader Gladys Mason leads Scrip readings from Matt 67 15 and Luke 14 with topics on pleasures and recreation. Kay Yates and Julia Divan present questions on knowing Christ enjoyed recreation and judging pleasing recreation. Members include Alis Cantrell Lorenda Cantrell Wanda Craig Eula Hight Beulah Avery Moni or Norcross Edna Palwer and Mrs Peters with roll call and society improvement ideas.
The 60 million road act clears the House and Senate and awaits the governor's signature to become law. It guarantees at least two solid gravel roads per county, creates trunk line roads linking major towns, and funds rural gravel roads under 6000 per mile. One third of bonds funds higher type roads, with a patrol system to maintain state roads and weight and speed controls for vehicles.
The B Y P U program features a devotional meeting titled Blame Jess and Harmless led by Mrs Skelton with script Philippians 2 12 17. Paul Cochran introduces and Walter Williams presents Such Christians will render obedient service. Artemus Seal III speaks on lines of service while Sylvia Brazeai and Elva Turner contribute. John Brazeai discusses being light bearers.
Mansfield plans near completion to send a large Mansfield delegation to the Norwood monster picnic. Friday August 26 is Mansfield Day at Norwood with a royal welcome from Manager Household er. A. J. Clark at the Bank of Mansfield handles replies and seatings for those attending. More than 100 boosters expected, many traveling by auto, with space for others.
About 80 Kansans gathered at Frank Williams home park south of Mansfield for the Third Annual Picnic of the Sons of the Sunflower State. The day featured socializing a fine dinner and talks on grapes growing strawberry culture dairying and poultry with W C Reece as toastmaster. Officers and an executive committee were elected and the next picnic is set for the first Wednesday in August at the same park.
