Local fire destroys eight buildings along the street near the depot including two restaurants a barber shop and a butcher shop. A one year old boy, sleeping in the butcher shop rear room, died in the blaze. The First National Bank building survived with prompt fire department aid and waterworks support. Insurance was limited to about 500 total across affected shops. Authorities consider upgrading town waterworks to reduce future fire losses.
