Topeka Home Bureau meets with lessons and plans picnic
The Topeka unit met July 18 at Mrs. Floyd LeSourd’s home. Dorothy Smith led a safety lesson on fluorescent bulb disposal and Elva Carpenter presented a health lesson on varicose veins. Corsages were made by Allison Himmel from home grown flowers. The group discussed an annual picnic at Pekin Park and 4-H families were invited.

The basic price support rate for the 1949 crop wheat is established at $2.08 per bushel in Mason County. Commission chairman C Nelson Warner, head of the local Agriculture Conservation Committee, announced the figure.

Mason County ACA announces grain loan and purchase terms
The county office sets loan and purchase terms for wheat based on the county rate $1.71 per bushel with a national average of $1.95. Loans and purchases run through January 31 1950 with a 7 cent per bushel storage allowance for farm storage. Eligibility requires No 3 or better grading or No 4 or lower with test weight.

Illinois peaches seen to have large harvest this year

McMunn predict a peach crop of over two million bushels in Illinois, up from 1.43 million last year, with strong Elberta demand as South Carolina’s light pickings reduce market pressure.
