Dr Joseph Gyalai Set to Open Manito Medical Practice

Dr Joseph Gyalai and his wife Kathleen will arrive in Manito around August 1 to open a general medical practice. He is highly recommended by Peoria physicians and has international training and U N medical service experience. He will operate from the former Dr Wright building and has rented a local apartment with his wife.

Grobs Plan Sunday Departure for Western Vacation

Mr. and Mrs. George Grob will leave Sunday morning for an extended vacation. They will visit West Kelso Washington as guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Johnson, former Manito residents, and travel to Oroville where the Grobs once lived. Ralph Davis of Clinton will supervise the Grob Barber Shop during their absence.

Local Implement Dealer Announces New Tractors

Seelye Hardware announced two John Deere heavy duty tractors the Model 50 and Model 60 on July 19 with a first public showing of the 60. Dealer Jim Seelye said the pair replace the A and B line and highlighted duplex carburetion live power shaft Powr Trol quick change tread and improved styling. Models offer gasoline or all fuel engines with six forward speeds 12 volt electrical system and enhanced cooling and bearings for better efficiency and comfort. The Model 60 is on display at Seelye Hardware and invites the public to view the new tractor.

Marvin Smith of the Navy in Norfolk Va arrived home Tuesday evening for a 13 day leave. He is the son of Postmaster and Mrs Glenn G Smith. Lucille Meyer Weds James Bowlby In July Manito Ceremony

Lucille Meyer and James Bowlby wed in a candle lit July ceremony at Manito Methodist Church with Rev. Powell officiating. The bride wore a Skinner satin gown. attendants in ice blue taffeta. reception for 200 followed. They plan to reside in Santa Barbara while Bowlby serves at Camp Cooke.

Speed Zone Signs Damaged Twice Near Manito Black Top

Speed zone markers placed at town limits along the Manito Black Top were dug up and reversed on a Saturday night and later one marker was removed and found in the cemetery. The village board says the 3 by 4 foot white signs with 20 mph limits were erected at private expense and praised by residents. Police seek leads to the vandals amid suspicions of teenage pranksters or malice.

Trail Ride and Horse Show at Triple SSS Ranch

A two day event at Triple SSS Ranch near Topeka Illinois includes trail rides Saturday and Sunday with an afternoon and evening ride, a Western Square and Round Dance Saturday night, moving pictures, and other activities. Boy Scouts Venture to Camp Wokonda for Weeklong Outing

Thirteen scouts from our local troop left Sunday morning for a week at Camp Wokonda, the district camping grounds north of Peoria on the Chillicothe Road. The site hosts five camps each with a camp advisor and twenty plus youths volunteering. Manila recruits include Gary Gosda, Daryl Thompson, Kent Budke, Kenny Johnson, Kurt Rankin, Kenny Bender, Frank Vaughn, Dean Wilson, Robbie Zeeck, Dennis and Daniel Woiwode, Owen Fox, and Jimmie Wistehuff.
