D J Powell ministering at Manito Methodist Church invites families to Sunday School at 9 45 am and Morning Worship at 10 45 am. F E Bender is superintendent with Mrs Powell leading the classes and Geo E Ethell playing organ music. The second quarter begins with Matthew lessons on Inner Resources for Christian Living and Roots of Character.
Mr and Mrs Walter Proehl and their family were Sunday dinner guests of the Floyd Spurs family in Pekin.
Mrs Hannah Hirst hosted a birthday club gathering for friends and neighbors to celebrate her 73rd birthday with a chicken dinner. The table featured crystal and silver and a centerpiece cake gifted by the club. gifts were opened and thanks offered, with punch served in crystal cups as guests and family joined the celebration.
Mr and Mrs W G Gore hosted a belated Christmas dinner and gift exchange at their home on Sunday with guests Mr and Mrs Grover Nixon of Oak Hill and Mrs Glenn C Gore and son Stephen of Galesburg.
Mr and Mrs M H Boyd entertained with Christmas dinner for Mrs Kathan Briggs of Peoria, and guests Mrs Hugo Hoepfner and family of Bartonville, Effie Cox and Miss Lillian Reed of Manito.
Mr and Mrs W G Gore and George W Meyer traveled to Knoxville Illinois to honor the birthdays of Mrs Glenn C Gore and her son Stephen They shared a dinner at Suns Steak House with the group including the guest of honor and other relatives or friends
A December 22 1952 letter from Capt Glenn C Gore expresses thanks for copies of the Manita Express and hopes to meet nearby MSgt Leroy Parkins. A separate note from William Arbell of Bradley University announces his move to Wartburg College Iowa as Associate Professor and Physics Department Head with wife and eight children at 502 Fourth St SW Waverly Iowa and requests mail to the new address.
Mrs. Anna Starrett and Mrs. Edna Heckman were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Hasselburg in Peoria last Tuesday afternoon for Nancy Hasselburg's fourth birthday party.
A miscellaneous shower was given in the St. Pauls Lutheran Church basement Sunday afternoon, December 28, in honor of Mrs. Jack Canterbury, formerly Betty Lou Hilst of Manito. Decorations were pink and blue with white bells and two large rings. Prizes were awarded to Laura Schimmelpfenning, Hari Canterbury, Betty Singley, Trene Handke and Martha Graff. Door prize went to Wilma Ethell. Lunch featured cake and ice cream with pink bells and nuts. Guests included many women from Havana, San Jose, Pekin, Delavan, Forest City, Green Valley, Peoria and Peoria area communities, with hostesses Barbara Canterbury and Hazel Canterbury. Afterward guests viewed the gifts on a large table.
Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Huffman report their son Merrill has returned to South Carolina after eight months with Photographic Squadron VJ 61 in Europe. He visited London Paris Frankfurt Istanbul Lisbon Florence Naples and Rome. He plans a trip to Illinois in summer 1953.

An unusual treat in music and message awaits at the Youth For Christ rally this Saturday at 7 30 p m The Gospel of Grace Hour radio group led by Rev and Mrs E L Banta and Miss Scholfield will conduct the service A fine musical program with several instruments will be followed by a message from Rev Banta The group is known locally for its radio ministry and one night rallies

Maude Kennedy of Havana stays to care for the ill Olen Kennedy and Carl. Elmer Bartell and Mrs Al Wilson visit Havana on December 24 to congratulate Claude and his wife on their Golden Wedding anniversary.
Mr and Mrs Otto Dierker and family entertained relatives at dinner on Friday. Guests included Mrs Elizabeth Beckman Mrs Irene Beckman and Mrs Lena Beckman of Havana and Mr and Mrs John Harfat of Easton.
Relatives join the Imig family to celebrate Christmas Day at the parents residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jacc Imig in San Jose. The gathering highlights traditional holiday cheer and family togetherness in a community home setting.
Mrs. Robert W. Null of Springfield has resigned from Franklin Life Insurance Co. and will move with her husband to his new base in Louisiana in January.
Maurelle Lawlis now with the International Harvester Co. in Mason City Iowa was home for the holidays. She and Parker Lynn Lawlis spent Christmas with their grandmother Mrs H B LaCharite and with uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Paul Houebechman at Rockford Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Bortell hosted Christmas Eve visitors including Byron Bortell and family J R Neikirk and Elmer Louie from Peoria Dale Bortell De Anne Armbrust Bradley and Kenneth Armbrust from Easton.
Mr and Mrs Donald Sours and Mr and Mrs Floyd Beale hosted Floyd Beale family members on Christmas day. The gathering included a 1 o clock goose dinner and a gift exchange completing the family circle.
