At a Manilo Rotary Club director’s meeting a guest night was set for March 17 as an Anniversary Celebration. Nelson Warner as club program director promises an enjoyable evening.
Community note announces a large outside box for mailing jotters and similar items at the Manita Post Office. Mrs. Thomas says mail is collected daily at 8:30 a.m. Any mail placed after 8:30 a.m. waits until the next morning collection.
Parkland residents entertained and visited Sunday through Thursday with numerous calls and social gatherings. Names include Ernest DeSutter family, Gertrude Guinden family, Roy Runyon and son, Ginger, James Ritchie and son, Wayne Meyer family, Roy Meyer, Norman Coombs, Barbara Seelye, Barbara Golden, Carolyn Beimfohr, and Mrs. Al Herzog guest of honor at a Linen shower in Rekkin at Livengood home.
Mrs. Russell Rickett chairs the March of Dimes drive with Forest City receipts totaling 95.20 and a 45.00 food sale contribution from The American Legion and Auxiliaries for the Polio benefit. St Johns Lutheran Church and other local groups contributed as well, with the remainder collected via house to house canvass.
The February meeting of Linden Camp, R. N. A. met Thursday evening February 12 at the Community Hall in Forest City. Mrs. Juanita Lemper presided. Entertainment hostesses were Miss Gladys Langston, Mrs. Rudolph Wahlfeld and Mrs. Floyd Bearle with refreshments by Mrs. Elmer Bortell, Mrs. Marie Dowell and Mrs. Vera Herrmann.
The Forest City Fox Hunt raised 37 for polio relief after a Saturday drive from Union Center. About 50 men participated in four drives shifting across two sections with one fox and one wolf killed in the morning and six foxes in the afternoon. A noon lunch of chili hot dogs pie and coffee was provided by ladies at Union Center.
Mrs. Wm. Meyer has returned home from St Frances hospital Peoria after a ten day surgical stay. Mrs. Sophia Himmel convalesced at the Rankin home Peoria and is now home after an eye operation at Memorial Hospital Bloomington. Mary Louise Parkins six year old daughter of M Sgt and Mrs Le Roy Parkins received emergency appendectomy care from Johnson Ambulance at Pekin Hospital and is recovering rapidly. Mrs Charles Smith remains about the same after Friday illness.
Mr and Mrs Lyle Palmer announce the birth of a 7 pound baby boy named Steven Lyle born at Pekin Hospital on Monday February 9 He has a sister Connie Lynn at home and paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ernest Palmer.
The John Deere Show sponsored by Seelye Hardware Co. drew a large audience Thursday evening February 5th at Forman High School Gym. Winners in the evening’s drawing were Fred Kahlhammer Mrs. Richard Radefield Mary Ann Vanderheide and Gerry Johnson.
The Manito Home Bureau announces a food sale on Saturday February 21 starting at 11 00 p m at the Manito Hardware.
The Altar and Rosary Society of the Immaculate Conception Church met at the Catholic Men's Center on Tuesday with co hosts Mesdames Phyliss and Connie Woiwode. Mary J Vaughn led the business and announced weekly Lenten Study Club sessions starting February 18 with Mrs. Grover Gumbel directing. Pinochle and Cootie prize winners included Mesdames Clara McCarith Shirley Gumbel Mary J Vaughn Christine Johnson and Miss Lorraine Meyer with a special prize to Mrs Anita Himmel. Others in attendance were Mesdames Johanna Eidmann Kathryn Hamilton Eva Wilson Mary Woiwode Mayme Palmer Mary Rose Reynolds Juanita Faulkner and Emma Hart.
Al Lussenhop said he just arrived home from Phoenix Sunday evening after spending three months in Arizona. He traveled home by way of the west coast and spent a week in a cotton picking county in southern California.
Last Wednesday evening the Catholic Men’s group held a pancake and sausage supper that drew strong patronage. The event netted $80 for the church treasury and many patrons praised the quality of the food.
Barbara Seelye and Norman Molloy spent Lincoln's Birthday Holiday at Seelye's home and traveled to Delavan on Thursday evening to attend the Mother and Daughter Banquet at 6 30 in the Delavan Methodist Church as Barbara's guest.

Manilo Rotary Club met in regular session with Vernon Langston leading a song fest and Jetty Meyer at the piano. Guest speaker Trevor Jones of CIMCO Farms discussed Illinois Central and I M line contributions to Mason County and national development, highlighting farmer relations and railroads. Bernard Seskind will lead next week's program.
Wm. F. Hirst, Institutional Scout Representative, announces a National Boy Scout Week event in the Methodist Church basement Monday evening February 16 at 7 p.m. The meeting covers Cub, Explorer, and Boy Scout activities and focuses on planning a fundraising drive for local troops.
S O Kastner won the 1952 National DeKalb corn growers contest Corn King plaque for Mason County. His five acre field yielded 134 bushels per acre, securing the honor.
Mrs Stuart Thomas and her husband visited relatives in Henry and Wenona on Sunday. The brief social event reflects family ties and local hospitality.
Mrs. Stuart Thomas, president of the Mason County H I A, will head the 1953 Heart Fund Campaign in Manilo to raise 195000 for Illinois Heart Association research education and community service. February is Heart Month per Gov. Stratton. Red plastic hearts in local businesses invite contributions to fight heart disease and rheumatic fever.
Twenty one members and two guests of the Manito Pinochle Club were entertained at the home of Mr and Mrs Bruce Cole Thursday evening with Miss Mabel Corbett and W L Kerr assisting. Prizes were awarded to Mesdames Bernshausen Beebe and Thompson and Messrs Thomas Runyon and Thompson. Refreshments were served. Mr and Mrs Vincent Runyon were guests of the club.
An addition to Spring Lake Church facilities features full width vestibule bookcases funded by Charles Van Orstrand and built by Phillip Golden. Leifheit Lumber Co supplied glass and panel doors. The expanding library, with nature poetry biographies fiction and Bible study titles, offers free two week circulation and aims to boost readership.
Oak Leaf Camp No 4 Royal Neighbors of America held its February gathering at Mrs Guy Hall's home. Oracle Mrs Alice Meyer led a brief business meeting voting to donate 5 to the Salvation Army Drive. Prizes went to Mesdames Robert Hilling Arley Schenert and Miss Mabel Corbett during social hour after pinochle and bunco.
The Mary Joseph Class of the Methodist Church will hold a chicken noodle supper in the church dining room on Wednesday evening February 18 from 5:00 to 7:30 for the building fund. Advance tickets are available from class members and at the door. Report ticket sales to Kathryn Meeker by February 15.
Miss Shirley Palmer of Manito was selected as Forman Senior High School’s D A R Award winner for 1953. She participated in Future Homemakers of America, served on the newspaper and annual staffs in 1951 and 1953, and held roles as librarian and junior play contributor. She attends the Manito Methodist Church.
The Forman School Club will meet Monday February 16 at 7 30 pm in the Senior High School Gym Manila. It is a family night with special entertainment planned for children and each family asked to bring enough cookies for their family.
The Mason County Home Bureau hosts Play Day with Manito Forest City and Topeka units at Forest City Jr High School Gym on Friday February 13. Registration runs 9 to 10 a.m.
The W S C S Study Club of Manito Methodist Church met at Mrs Charles Gordon Sr home. Devotional on Home Missions and Human Rights led by Mrs Gordon. The class hour was led by Mrs D J Powell. Attendees included Mesdames Thompson Powell Ethell Hirst Willett Warner Meeker Thompson Marquardt Lawson Dale and the hostess. Next meeting set for Feb 11 at Mrs Lawson.
A linen shower in Pekin honored Carolyn Ann Beimfohr Herzog a Chicago bride to be at the home of Mrs. Ernestine Livengood with 18 guests. Relatives from Manito Spring Lake and nearby towns attended a long luncheon table and gifts. Herzog a U of Illinois student in higher math Navy Ensign to be commissioned February 1 after ROTC and will graduate February 15.
