At a Manilo Rotary Club director’s meeting a guest night was set for March 17 as an Anniversary Celebration. Nelson Warner as club program director promises an enjoyable evening.

New Outside Mail Box Added at Manita Post Office

Community note announces a large outside box for mailing jotters and similar items at the Manita Post Office. Mrs. Thomas says mail is collected daily at 8:30 a.m. Any mail placed after 8:30 a.m. waits until the next morning collection.

Parkland Visitors and Calls At Local Homes

Parkland residents entertained and visited Sunday through Thursday with numerous calls and social gatherings. March of Dimes Drive Success Reported in Forest City

Mrs. Russell Rickett chairs the March of Dimes drive with Forest City receipts totaling 95.20 and a 45.00 food sale contribution from The American Legion and Auxiliaries for the Polio benefit. St Johns Lutheran Church and other local groups contributed as well, with the remainder collected via house to house canvass.

Royal Neighbors Meet in Forest City February Session

The February meeting of Linden Camp, R. N. A. met Thursday evening February 12 at the Community Hall in Forest City. Mrs. Juanita Lemper presided. Entertainment hostesses were Miss Gladys Langston, Mrs. Rudolph Wahlfeld and Mrs. Floyd Bearle with refreshments by Mrs. Elmer Bortell, Mrs. Marie Dowell and Mrs. Vera Herrmann.

Fox Hunt Nets 37 For Polio Fund

The Forest City Fox Hunt raised 37 for polio relief after a Saturday drive from Union Center. About 50 men participated in four drives shifting across two sections with one fox and one wolf killed in the morning and six foxes in the afternoon. A noon lunch of chili hot dogs pie and coffee was provided by ladies at Union Center.

Local Hospital Happenings In Peoria Bloomington and Pekin

Mrs. Wm. Meyer has returned home from St Frances hospital Peoria after a ten day surgical stay. Mrs. Sophia Himmel convalesced at the Rankin home Peoria and is now home after an eye operation at Memorial Hospital Bloomington. Mary Louise Parkins six year old daughter of M Sgt and Mrs Le Roy Parkins received emergency appendectomy care from Johnson Ambulance at Pekin Hospital and is recovering rapidly. Mrs Charles Smith remains about the same after Friday illness.

Mr and Mrs Lyle Palmer announce the birth of a 7 pound baby boy named Steven Lyle born at Pekin Hospital on Monday February 9 He has a sister Connie Lynn at home and paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ernest Palmer.

Mary J Vaughn led the business and announced weekly Lenten Study Club sessions starting February 18 with Mrs. Grover Gumbel directing. A linen shower in Pekin honored Carolyn Ann Beimfohr Herzog a Chicago bride to be at the home of Mrs. Ernestine Livengood with 18 guests. Relatives from Manito Spring Lake and nearby towns attended a long luncheon table and gifts. Herzog a U of Illinois student in higher math Navy Ensign to be commissioned February 1 after ROTC and will graduate February 15.
