Public hearing on Spring Lake Manito Forest City unit district petition

Nineteen residents attended a hearing at Manito High School on February 8 1950 led by Mason County Superintendent Joseph W Hobbs to judge the sufficiency of a 214-signature petition for forming a 23-district community unit. The petition meets population and valuation requirements, representation from multiple districts is adequate, and an election is scheduled for March 18 with polling info to follow.

Fire destroys John Ford country home in lightning strike

The remodeled six room two story home of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Rankin was struck by lightning at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday February 8 1950 and burned completely. Occupants Mr. and Mrs. John Ford and three children could not save belongings and will stay with the Rankins while seeking a placate live.

Seven Foxes Killed Near Forest City Hunt

A fox and wolf hunt near Forest City drew about 275 men. Nine sections of land were hunted and seven foxes were killed. Proceeds go to the county polio fund. Trucks were supplied by local residents and the American Legion auxiliary served dinner in the town hall.
