The CIMCO News reports on the Manito Chemical Company and the peat soil bed north of Manito known as deep peat. Fire control around peat is by trenching to the water table, and a passenger once surveyed the peat for commercial use. The Manito Filler Co. operates from Peoria with L. H. Erler as President and Mabel C. Furey as Vice President and Treasurer. The plant dumps peat via a narrow gauge railway, dries it to 12 percent moisture, and sizes it for use in commercial fertilizer.
