Sick Notes From Forest City Area Hospitalized and Injured

Mrs Charles Seest of Forest City is at St Frances Hospital Peoria after surgery on Wednesday. Randall Shinn, son of Mr and Mrs Ted Shinn, has returned from Methodist Hospital Peoria where he had plastic surgery for a hand burn. Roger Van Etten, son of Mrs Cecile Van Etten, is in Caterpillar Co machinery casted after an injury from a machine fall in Peoria. Richard Martin of Peoria, nephew of Mr and Mrs George Sherer, has entered Mayes at Rochester Minnesota for surgery on a hip injury. his wife Marian Sherer remains with him for several weeks. Their daughters Harriet Lynn and Rebecca stay with Miss Mabel Sherer at home during the absence.

Changing Residences of Local Faculty Family

Mr and Mrs Joseph McCraith and their children moved Friday to the George Wahlfeld home recently vacated by the Harry Schoonovers and the Nor rises. The dwelling was previously two apartments. The McCraiths both teach at Forman School Forest City and have lived in the Lester Warner property formerly owned by William Sawrey since arriving here a year ago.

Local 4 H Camp Attendee Returns From Lake Jacksonville

Miss Annalee Prochl attended 4 H camp at Lake Jacksonville July 14 to 19. Sunday evening Eva Wilson and Emma Hart joined Marlow Wilson in Peoria to visit Mrs. Marlow Wilson at Municipal Sanitarium where she showed improvement. Several families returned from a two week Canada vacation. Others traveled to Peoria and Ottawa for hospital visits and a wedding.

Harold H Meyer Joins United Air Lines as First Officer

Harold H Meyer son of Mr and Mrs Harry E Meyer with over 400 flight hours begins a new aviation career as a United Air Lines first officer. After training at Denver flight school he is assigned to Mainliner flights in and out of San Francisco. Meyer, a University of Illinois graduate, began flying in 1946 and has piloted private and commercial aircraft.

Village Board votes $50 reward for tampering signs

At the regular monthly meeting on Monday evening August 4 the Village Board voted a $50 reward for information that leads to arrests and convictions of those who tampered with village signs on the Manito Black Top Road. Offenders face a possible $100 fine per offense.

Canadian Cruise Plans for Miss Mabel Corbett

Miss Mabel Corbett recently finished a Bradley University summer course and will depart Saturday with Mrs. J. L. Corbett of Pekin. They will ride from Chicago by fast train to Montreal to join a party for a boat trip up the historic St Lawrence River to Quebec. Sightseeing will cover Quebec, Montreal, and other historic points along the route.

Patchett Takes Vo Ag Post in Big Rock Illinois

Eugene Patchett, Vocational Agricultural Instructor at Forman High School, accepted a position in Big Rock Illinois ten miles west of Aurora on route 30. He and his family plan to move around August 20 after relocating to Manito in 1948 and starting the Vo Ag department.

Rotary Club Observes Guest Night at Manito

On Tuesday July 29 the Manito Rotary Club held guest night with each member inviting a guest couple. Dinner by Forest City Home Bureau was served at the Baptist Church basement followed by an auditorium program for 71 attendees. Barbara Manus performed on marimba, Mrs Betty Lessen sang, and Ernest Warner showed travel photos.

Plowing Demonstration August 7 at Claton Farm

The Kenneth Claton farm nine miles northeast of Manito will host a plowing demonstration on Thursday August 7 starting at 2 p.m. Farmers in the area will test a new John Deere tractor as Jim Seelye and helpers invite the public to attend.

Oak Leaf Camp No. 4 R N A members gathered at the Meyer cottage at Spring Lake for an evening outing hosted by Mr and Mrs Melvin Meyer. Hill-Palmer Post Pot Luck Suppers and Installations

Members of the Hill Palmer Post and Auxiliary enjoyed a pot luck supper after a business session. Plans were made to install Post and Auxiliary officers at the September meeting. The Mason County Council will meet August 8 at 6 p.m. in the Forest City Baptist Church basement with hosts Forest City Post and Auxiliary. Elect officers at the gathering.
