The August rainfall at Tamworth was 60 inches from three falls, offering little benefit to pastures and crops. Drought conditions persist district wide with scarce surface water, ragged feed, and high lamb losses from inadequate milk. Hand feeding continues as need grows and mortality rises in recently shorn sheep during cold spells.
Five Sydney models including Jean Newington and Sandra Legse will model at Mackenzies Spring Fashion Parade at Memorial Hall Tamworth to benefit the Manilla branch of the Country Women’s Association. Miss Lindsay Thompson will compere. Highlights include swimsuits, Italian playclothes, dresses, furs and linens with Paris reports. Afternoon tea and entry price 6 shillings.
The Express reports the greens will be closed for play Saturday and Sunday, with the club expected to stay open as usual. The team is set to play Inverell on Sunday, and details will appear in Friday's paper.
Scout Headquarters forecast a banner Bob a Job Week with over 30 000 Cub Scouts and leaders involved across the state. Scouts will visit households during the week offering to do jobs for a minimum 1 shilling, inviting people to pay what they feel the task is worth. Lord Rowallan will open the event with a recorded broadcast across several stations.
The CWA Younger Set held its annual meeting in the Rest Rooms on Thursday last. Officers for the coming year were elected: President Mrs. C. O. Ghys. Secretary Miss Kath Simpson. Treasurer Miss Betty Brady.
