Spastic Centre Week Concludes In Manilla Show

Patrons praised Manilla talent as Spastic Centre Week ended with a Theatre show. President V J Byrnes thanked attendees and the artists, noting special tribute to the Barraba Quartet who performed at their own expense and highlighting the ballet girls trained by Mrs L Ridgwell. The program featured the Barraba Quartet, Miss Moira Piggott, Mary Cooke, Judy Cooke, and John Paterson among others, ending with a finale where all artists took the stage.

Barbecue and dance raise funds at the showground

A weekend of events organized by Mr Laurie Baker and others drew about 250 attendees at the pavilion with a net £160 from the barbecue, while Mr and Mrs Eric Flett hosted a Thursday night event yielding £93. Local clubs and tournaments complemented a busy week including sports, concerts, and a button day led by Miss Peggy Winter.

Appeal Upheld in Confusing Manilla Horse Case

Judge Storkey noted evident confusion in the evidence. Sing a labourer from West Manilla testified he used the horse to haul logs on the Glen Rock property. His son Sam led the animal over a gully when it injured its left hind fetlock, and he described the horse as lying on its left hind leg.

Acquitted Before m5. Tam worth Quarter Sessions

A Tamworth jury acquitted Thomas Gilbert Sing, a labourer, on three counts of indecently assaulting a mule. The Crown alleged assaults on a 17 year old youth. Sing testified he did not see the horse again after logging work. The court remanded him without bail until the next Quarter Sessions.
