About 250 patrons attended the first boxing night in Manilla in 16 years at the Palais Theatre during Spastic Week. Tamworth Police Boys Club provided the ring and eight lads faced opponents from Gunnedah Warialda Manilla and Walcha. J Leary and Col Ping fought the main bout with Leary winning on a first round tie.

Accident Victim Dies Near Tamworth Hospital
Frederick Mitchell 38 of Manilla died after heart failure during surgery at Tamworth Base Hospital following a car crash on the Boggabri road. He was transported from Manilla Hospital to Tamworth, cremation held at Malta Presbyterian cemetery after a service at St Andrews Church led by Rev John Mitchell.

Hospital Finances At the Manila Hospital Board meeting
The Manila Hospital Board reports improved finances for September. Cash balance fell from £176 18s 9d to £79 0s 11d by month end, with receipts of £1263 15s 3d including £821 government subsidy and £397 14s 6d in patient fees. Payments totaled £1169 17s 5d. Home and Family Week Meetings Aided by Hall for Attendance
The opening of Home and Family Week meetings was planned for tomorrow at the Rural School building but later consultation suggested the event should be for adults. To seat the larger attendance a hall was proposed and the projector and operator were offered and thanked.

It reported a £31,000 annual distribution from the NSW Hospitals Contribution Fund to be credited to the Capital and Equipment Fund. The board backed nurses salary improvements while opposing a 15/10 weekly increase in board and judging allowances. An official from Public Works said hospital additions were expected to start by early October.
