CWA Annual Meeting in Manilla Elects New Officers
At the annual meeting of the Manilla branch CWA section officers for the ensuing year were elected: President Mrs L Bowman Hon Sec Mrs S Park Hon Treasurer Mrs W Ryan Town vice presidents Mes James W Bignall J Brady and Hardcastle Country vice presidents Mesdames Duprez Stafford and Pittman The president reported on a year’s work including £700 raised for the Building Fund. Monthly meeting followed with 30 attendees and plans for a November 28 fete.

Motor Car O returns man after Boggabri road crash
Frederick Mitchell farm employee of Belvue Manilla was admitted to Manilla Hospital after a late Wednesday night crash on the Boggabri road. The car rolled a culvert, trapping him for about three hours until a passing motorist found him. He was conveyed to hospital by the Manilla ambulance in a satisfactory condition.

Graziers oppose Saturday trading abolition fight
The Manilla ranch of the Graziers Association will write to Tamworth MP W A Chaffey to oppose any move to close business houses on Saturday morning. The decision followed a letter from the Manilla Businessmen’s Association asking for cooperation against Saturday trading abolition. P V Carter urged vigorous opposition, noting the Graziers Executive backs maintaining the current Saturday trading.

Manilla Graziers Hold Quarterly Meeting at Mechanics Institute
The Manilla branch of the Graziers Association met at the Mechanics Institute with fair member attendance. President B V Byrnes chaired as guests My Carter Rangail and Mr Berry joined. The group urged Mr D H Drummond to press for another payment on the No 18 Wheat Pool and to seek return of £20 million in tax moneys from prior pools. The CSIRO was asked to consider a North West Slopes Scientific Research Station with HQ at Manilla, following Soil Conservation Service gains and pasture improvements. The association expressed thanks for ongoing CSIRO work benefiting the land.

The Rev V C and Mrs Duncombe welcomed a record crowd to a garden party officially opened at 3 pm by Mandowa-Shire Councillor G. SR. Park.
