An inspecting party viewed a recovered Japanese submarine in Sydney Harbour. Details describe a cigar shaped hull with a 8 ft diameter midsection, twin propellers, a reinforced bow with a saw-like device, torpedo tubes, and a compact conning tower. The craft appears crudely finished with wooden replacements and rough steel fittings.
A list of donations to the Patriotic and War Fund includes CB Dowe four pounds seventeen shillings and Paterson one pound one shilling, T Z Cokielles Jnr one pound six shillings, Baldwin five shillings, Mrs D McMatan four shillings, Keith Thaneh one pound one shilling, M Roberts one pound, Mrs J H Hudson, proceeds from a cake sale by Mrs D Grant two pounds zero shillings six pence, and Mes K M Windyor proceeds of a tennis party three pounds four pence.
Dalgety and Co Ltd held bank appraisements in Brisbane on October 9. Leaf offered came from the south west Queens hind with small quantities from the northern NSA. Chapman Bros of Moore Creek near Tamworth supplied finely cured leaf fetching strong prices. A consignment from N P Hayne’s Wast Manilla property sold to 4aa in the Ashford district top price 50d.
