Sewerage Scheme Nearing Completion for House Connections
Council approves house drainage line connections to the sewer from the sewer to near the fittings. Ratepayers may install water closets to connect directly once the scheme is ready. Pumps at the Pump Well and Treatment Works underway. Main reinstatement at the river crossing in progress. Expected completion by year end with minor mains works remaining. Council aims to begin full operation early next year. Department advises at least 50 connections before scheme is activated.

True Tide Dominates Manilla Race Club Meeting
Trainer Eric Flett saddled four winners at Manilla on Saturday with True Tide claiming two races and a walk over in another. Watterson guided True Tide to clear lead in the feature while Armageddon and Kenarda made late runs. Quizmaster led early in the Flying Handicap, but Whirlabar, piloted by Whitten, edged Epsom Day and Juan for minor placings. Road works and flood damage repairs approved for 1953
The council approved a 1953 trunk and main road maintenance programme including gravel resheeting on Main Roads 63 and 553 and a concrete crossing over Greenhatches Creek. Tenders have been called for Crow Mountain road works and flood damage repairs in the eastern shire following a 1952 report by the Department of Public Works. An inspection by the Shire Engineer and a DPW officer assessed gravel works on Oaky Creek Tarpoly and other sites for bitumen surfacing tests to be conducted soon.

Street Stalls Move to Manilla Street Front
At the latest Municipal Council meeting the PMG department refused a lease for a vacant block beside the Post Office residence to build a semi permanent street stall. The council, responding to complaints about the Bank of NSW corner site, now allows stalls in front of the showroom on Manilla Street. Adequate feed is stressed as vital for successful animal husbandry by Mr W L Hindmarsh, Chief of the Department of Animal Industry.
