Sewerage Scheme Delay Not Council's Fault in Manilla

The Manilla Municipal Council states the sewerage project delay is not its responsibility. The Department of Public Works promised machinery and a pump well for 14 months, with delivery dates slipping from 1951 to late 1952. Manilla Municipal Council Sets Special Meeting

A special meeting of the Manilla Municipal Council will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening November 11 at 8 pm. The session will consider purchasing machinery to replace the horse and drag outfit used for street maintenance. Mayor Ald Grill invites ratepayers to attend while the council weighs a 2 tractor package with ripper, grader blade, scoop, mower and attachments after recent demonstrations by local and Tamworth agents.

Council writer requests immediate action to repair flood damaged pipe near treatment works and opposes replacing pipes on the Low Level Bridge. Alderman warns the bridge would be washed in the next flood if pipes are restored there.

Manilla Branch Plans Silo Hours and Government Aid

The Manilla branch of the Ettlers Association met at Mechanics Institute with good attendance. President Lance Bowman chaired as members urged extended silo hours from 6 am to 6 pm during harvest, appointing a three member committee to negotiate with the silo manager. They also sought immediate steps from the Federal Government through Drummond to refund 19 million pounds to growers. Ratliff urged restoring motor vehicle concession for primary producers. A sympathy note was sent to Dame Mary Hughes on her husband's death. Future meetings move to 2:30 pm, with the next on the last Friday in January 1953.

Retirements Scribbled by Municipal Council on Garbage Contract

The Municipal Council learned that Mr. P Muggleton plans to retire at year end and move to retire. The Mayor Al Grill noted his faithful service and the contract as garbage contractor. Ald Scott praised Mr Muggleton’s work and said ratepayers value his efforts.

Advertiser Seeks Pram in Local Paper Notice

In a January local advertisement a seller sought a baby carriage. A responding mail offer followed, but the message contained garbled text and unclear details about the transaction and the advertiser.
