Farewell Party for Mr. L Durham at Court House Hotel
About 50 friends of Mr L Durham gathered at the Court House Hotel on Thursday night to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure for Cooma. Lindsay has been attached to the Manilla Office of the Soil Conservation for four years and will join the Conservation Office at Cooma. The gathering, chaired by Rev Father O'Brien, featured many speakers praising the guest's support of local organisations. Mr J Byrnes presented a silver coffee service on behalf of the attendees. Lindsay responded suitably. Theo Mac Donald provided music and refreshments were enjoyed. Earlier in the week he was sent off by the Manilla RSL and Soil Conservation staff at Manilla.

President Mrs L Bowmen chaired as the group agreed to donate £1 4s 0d to the Testimonial Fund and asked the Manager of the New Government Grain Elevators to ensure harvest readiness, while seeking more funding for rural broadcasting and station expansion. The executive plans to oppose restricting private wheat sales and to convey Homebush strike concerns to the Agriculture Minister. Seasonal greetings were exchanged, wishing a good harvest and a prosperous new year.

Car Runs Off Road Injures Man Near Somerton
On Saturday evening a man, John Bickley of Somerton, was injured when the car he rode in skidded on loose gravel near Somerton, left the road and fell into a ditch. Arthur E. Puller of Parramatta North drove the vehicle. he was uninjured but the car front was damaged. A passing motorist took Bickley to Manilla Hospital.
