Tractor Tyres Replacements Policy Discussed at Mau Pla Meeting

At the Mau Pla branch annual meeting a letter from Acting Minister for Supply and Shipping N Makin was read. It confirms 60 percent of incoming tractor tyres from the US for 1944 and a 25 percent temporary increase in NSW to meet replacement needs. The joint tractor advisory committee oversees tyre distribution between the Department of Commerce and Agriculture and other departments. The meeting on June 3 will include the dairy report and election of officers.

Hospital Appeal Acknowledges Donations to Manilla District

The Manilla District Hospital Ladies Auxiliary records thanks for new donations to its special appeal. Contributors include W. Cvister, Keith Blanch, Mass A. Bowman, Miss A. Cena, Mrs. J. Finlan, W. Coup lani, C. J. Byrnes, D. Ewart, Onhills chemist, Norman Chapman, J. A. Sneesby and Sons, and Mrs. O A. Dowe, with amounts ranging from 1 shilling to several pounds.

New Railway Timetable Issued By Department of Railways

A newly issued timetable specifies trains from Tamworth to Sydney and return services. The day train departs Tamworth at 6 58 a m arriving Sydney 6 11 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with additional Saturday times. The Glen Innes mail departs Tamworth at 10 45 pm on Mon Wed Fri and Sat arriving Sydney 9 15 am. Rail motors from Manilla connect with the Glen Innes mail departing Manilla 8 14 pm and Tamworth 8 10 am on Mon Wed Fri Sat arriving Manilla 9 47 am and Barraba 9 58 am. The Sydney to Tamworth day train runs at 7 2 pm on Mon Wed and Fri.

Tractor Tyre Shortage Agreed For Government Inquiry

Mandowa Shire Council resolved at its Saturday meeting to request government information on alleged nationwide tractor tyre stockpiling due to weather. Dr G E Bowman led the motion, with support noting public concern and calls for a definite answer. The council asked for speedier tyre production and early release to primary producers.

Destruction of Horses Sparks Council Appeal

Gostwyck Shire Council seeks cooperation from Shire Councils to back a Federal bill prohibiting horse slaughter after the war.
