Taxation and control under new Transport Co ordination Bill
A proposed State Transport Co ordination Act would centralise power under a four member board with a Chief Commissioner to regulate and tax motor vehicles. The bill grants the minister authority to direct railway and road bodies, establish a transport fund, license agents, and set per mile or per passenger charges. It also restricts passenger use by goods vehicles, outlines license criteria, and enables investigations of existing transport authorities. A federal proposal to abolish state parliaments is also noted.
