Upper Manilla Bridge Opens After Prolonged Construction
The contractor W O Marshall completed the Upper Manilla bridge approaches and opened the northern traffic route. After the Old Town Bridge washout on January 8 1941, a high level bridge was planned with support from Mandown Shire Council and multiple local bodies. Despite tender delays and a 1942 flood, the reinforced concrete six span bridge was completed by September last year, restoring continuous northward travel.
