Eighteenth Annual Show at Manilla Society Opens Entries

The Manilla Agricultural Society announces the Eighteenth Annual Show entries close tomorrow. The event runs Friday and Saturday March 21 and 22 with many improvements including new cattle stalls and three new trophies. A marking bee and ground work precede the show with significant help from volunteers and motorized equipment.

Wedding Coupltid O Leary in Manilla Holy Trinity Church

The marriage of Miss Veronica Mary O Leary to Edwin James Coupand was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church Manilla by Rev Dumvombe. The bride daughter of the late James O Leary and Mrs C V O Leary wore slipper lace and Chantilly with a lace train and carried a bouquet of white lilac camellias and daphnes. Her attendants Miss Lois Coupland and Miss Norma Thorsby wore silver lame tops blue mis tulle skirts and carried bouquets of sweet peas camellias carnations and tulips. Best man Henry Duprez and groomsman Ronald Peake supported the couple. The reception followed at the parish hall with Mrs Coupland and Mrs O Leary assisting, both in blue and aqua outfits respectively.

Manilla Branch Meeting of Farmers and Settlers Assoc

The Manilla branch of the Farmers and Settlers Association held a recent meeting with President L. T Bowman in the chair. A two minute silence honored King George VI and James Bell. A letter from NSW Minister to Agriculture Mr B Graham discussed wheat sub terminal at Werris Creek with 24 hours receiving. motion to protest MP tax free allowances was debated. members decided not to advocate MPs voting themselves allowances while others pay tax.

Caledonian Society Annual Meeting Report Highlights Band Progress

Manilla Caledonian Society reports five meetings in the year with member attendance limited by other commitments. The Armidale Tamworth and Grett Innes bands performed publicly and in competitions, with the Band now at sixteen players. Ball income exceeded £120, helping reduce liabilities to about £130 plus £60–£70 of equipment value. Subscriptions were weak but the committee remained active. liquidation of debts hoped for in the coming year with continued support.
