Parents in Halls Creek campaigned for government aid to run a country-district school bus to Manilla Rural School. After a failed bid for subsidies and talks with Sydney, they financed two light buses with bank help and parent contributions to keep children educated, hoping for future government relief.
A Coming-of-Age party for Peter ONeill drew about 220 guests on Saturday night. Entertainment included dancing, soloists Jack Baker Ian Turner Reg MacMillan Mac Grantham and piano by Mrs H Jackson of Sydney and Mrs J Behan with Pavy's orchestra. The Manilla Pipe Band performed and a key shaped cake iced by Mrs HSw Jackson. Guests traveled from Sydney Tamworth and Barraba to attend and toasts honored Peter family members also celebrating birthdays.
At the annual meeting of the Manilla Parents and Citizens Association on Wednesday night, high tribute was paid to Mr W L Bingham for many years of service. He was re elected secretary and is serving his 25th consecutive year in that position, a record unlikely to be beaten in the state.
The Manilla mayor voice support for the official opening of the dressing sheds at Frank Chaffey Park. He credits the Sink or Swim Committee and Prestly Une Cornells for foundational efforts and notes the value for families and youths learning to swim. The Manilla Parents and Citizens Association reports a 1952 year marked by new two room school facilities, sewerage connection hopes, and a front entrance improvement. Funds were raised via dances, parades, an art exhibition, and a united nations flag presentation with CWA. Donations funded textbooks and prizes. library needs persist while Kennedy Trust aid supports books. Trustees may be empowered to spend up to 100 pounds. a new Ladies Auxiliary formed. The report urges parental education on school methods at monthly meetings and commends Secretary Mr W L Bingham for 24 years service.
The R.S.L. Ladies Auxiliary expresses gratitude to all who donated goods for their stall last Saturday and to the public for patronage. The sale was organized by Mrs. Grant Jnr.
The Saturday shoot of the John Blair Handicap over 500 yards produced results for ALT Hall and W. G. Hall with scores listed. Poor attendance was blamed on racing events the same day. No shoot next Saturday due to Show prep. next shoots set for March 14 and March 22 feature all day sessions over three ranges. Separately locals discussed hiring a 40 passenger plane for an Australia jaunt, with 20 names submitted.
