He noted that up to 1947 the council could allow supervised work, but Parliament withdrew that power.
At the Manilla Agricultural Society annual meeting, foundation member A. G. Doring retired from the Show Committee. President B. V. Byrnes praised his outstanding work, noting he was a regular at meetings and always willing to contribute. Doring urged all committee members to attend meetings and pull their weight.
A special meeting of the Manilla Ambulance Committee decided to hold the Annual Ball on Friday with June. Discussion covered fundraising methods with some members favoring other functions over the ball due to limited profit. A male committee was formed to assist the ladies auxiliary. Ball supper to be buffet style with continuous music. Admission priced at 12 shillings for gents and 6 shillings for ladies. Free buses will run from Tamworth and Barraba.
