Flowers Give Way To Winter Frosts In Final Death Toll
Flowers that battled through early winter could not weather last weekends frosts and are now a total run. Pruning and trimming will now be the order of the day.
NO NEW BOILER FOR HOSPITAL
The Manila Hospital Board reports that the Hospitals Commission cannot fund a new boiler this financial year. A tender for the boiler and erection of a boiler house was accepted previously, but the project awaits future finance. Minister for Health M. O'Sullivan visited Manila in May and promised to investigate the matter.

Bush Fire Brigade Re-forms At Mandowa Shire Meeting
At the Mandowa Shire Council monthly meeting a letter announced the re-formation of Halls Dr Bush Fire Brigade. Officers named include Captain M Blanch and Deputy Captain G H Ewen with a committee of I Smith J Kenny Jnr A H Gallagher and K C White. The brigade seeks equipment valued at £30 including a power firefighting unit a 400 gallon tank and 12 knapsack sprays. The clerk provided purchase details and council will arrange delivery. The brigade's personnel were accepted and appointed under the Bush Fire Act.

Obituary Edward Emmanual Randall 84 former NSW sergeant
Edward Emmanual Randall died in Manilla District Hospital on Tuesday July 8 after a three week illness at age 84. A retired sergeant of police who came from Southampton to Australia in the early days, he served from 1889 in NSW Police, with postings at Grafton Woodonboug Glen Innes Emmaville Guy Fawkes Uralla and Armidale before retiring in 1927. He moved to Kempsey then to Manilla after flooding three years ago. He was a keen sportsman breeding horses and dogs. Funeral at 11 am Thursday July 9 from the Manilla cemetery followed by a service at the graveside. He leaves a widow and six children from his first marriage: L Randall Uralla. M E Randall Sydney. STOP BUSHFIRES AT MANDOWA SHIRE COUNCIL MEETING
At the last Mandowa Shire Council meeting a circular from NSW Chief Secretary Mr. Kelly urged swift action to curb bushfire risk next summer. He asked Councils to remove hazards and establish fire breaks under the Bushfires Act, with costs borne by owners if work is required. He said councils know their areas best and must act before danger rises.

Manilla Hospital Finances Improve Despite June Debt
At a Friday meeting the Hospital Board treasurer reported the June debt at £752 19s 5d, down from £991 15s 0d in May. June receipts totalled £1499 6s 3d, including £674 monthly subsidy and £742 special grant. June payments were £1270, leaving a debit of £762 19s 5d.
