Grasshopper Control Meeting Draws Large Crowd Of Landholders
Landholders and experts gathered in Tamworth to discuss grasshopper suppression. Attendees included Tamworth P P Board president and secretary, Warialda Pastures Protection representatives, MLA W A Chaffey, and Tamworth Graziers President B V Byrnes. A key speaker, J T Byrnes, warned of spring hatching and urged full landholder cooperation. The Department of Agriculture noted £120,000 spent on control using bran baits and insecticides, with new two week effective insecticides in trial.

Grasshopper Control Resolution Passed Unanimously
A meeting adopted a unanimous resolution urging the Federal Government through CSIRO and NSW Department of Agriculture to fund full scale grasshopper research and to disseminate latest methods to farmers. It calls for large scale demonstrations by air ground and hand methods and for coordination with bush fire brigades where costly machinery is involved.
