A Manila railway goods shed lighting dispute notes no injuries from inadequate light. An incident on July 13, 1953 involved pre-fabricated steel panels dragging and damaging the shed area. The secretary says the shed’s hours, recent painting, and improved natural lighting reduce need for extra lighting in deliveries.
Manilla triumphed over Werris Creek 16 to 8 in a rugged first grade rugby match. Key momentsfeatured Ron Bishop two tries and Trehearne lead in a late move. Derrick and Oehler backed defense, while Werris Creek fought back with Egan and Wilson tries. Reserves won 14 to 8. Juniors edged by 7 to 5.
The Shop Assistants Union proposal to abolish Saturday morning trading was discussed at Tuesday night’s Manilla Business News Association meeting. The group resolved to oppose the move and will urge State Member for Tamworth, W A Chaffey, to oppose it.
In August last year the Manilla Business Mews Association appealed to station 27M Tamworth and to the Postmaster General over poor 2TM reception caused by interference from 2M FSS. 21M owners said they had raised the issue with the Broadcasting Control Board. The Postmaster General now directs the Director of Posts and Telegraphs to investigate the matter and report on the condition.
The Manila Technical College announces new French classes starting July 1. Ladies may enrol through Miss Mason at the Legion Room next to the Imperial Hotel. Enrolments for dressmaking and whitework for children wear and undies are also open on Tuesdays 7 pm to 11 pm or Wednesdays 9 am to 4 pm.
