The article analyzes the disparity between Australian and London price indexes, detailing how Australian industrial prices sit well above export farm prices and the London benchmark. It discusses methods to bridge the gap, including wholesale cost writes down versus currency devaluation, tariff effects, and the likely social impact of drastic adjustment on workers and businesses. It notes experts favor devaluation with tariff adjustment and highlights who bears the tariff burden, stressing the need for balance to avoid widespread bankruptcies and poverty.
