Thursday Train Restoration Planned on Barraba Line

Reliable notice says Thursday train service will restart on the Barraba line with the summer timetable. It will coincide with the Glen Innes Mail on Thursdays and pleases those who campaigned for daily tram service. The Thursday trial restoration will set Tuesday as the weekday with no service.

Beef Cattle Breeders Contest Aims To Boost Australian Herds

At the Manilla Graziers Association monthly meeting officers received details of the NSW Agricultural Bureau Beef Cattle Breeders competition. It seeks to show viable beef cows for vealers and steers, and to boost interest among mixed-farm owners. Entries require six breeding cows from a herd of ten or more, pasture fed, with closing date November 14 1952 at Rural Bank or Agricultural Bureau branches. Judges will rate on a state-wide basis.

Scots Ball Success Marks Annual Mandowa Event

The annual Scots Ball drew 400 to 450 attendees on a mild Friday night, with lively dancing led by Bob Morrison and Fred Pagy, a pipe band entrance, and a well received supper. Host city officials and guild leaders received floral tributes, and decorations featured blue bells and tartan. Planning for future judging and events was noted, along with thanks to donors and volunteers for the successful ball.

LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT NEAR CITY CENTER

A level crossing collision occurred at about 12 5 pm when a train struck a utility truck, pushing it 112 yards along the buffers before stopping. Mr Gardner was thrown clear and transported to Manila Hospital with severe shock. no other passengers were in the vehicle, which was extensively damaged.

The secretary reported July daily average patients at 12.96 for private and public wards. At month end 13 patients remained from 44 treated. 32 were discharged. Outdoor adults 24 with 83 visits. July gifts acknowledged include lettuce vegetables fruit magazines and eggs from multiple supporters.

John Blair handicap 900 yard stage results report

Saturday’s shoot marked the third stage of the John Blair handicap at 900 yards. Records include scores for ALT Ball 83 and several shooters such as H C Dengate and D Singie with notable distances and times. Next Saturday features the Swinton Handicap at 600 yards as the third stage.
