Hospital Board President R C Veness presents the annual report for the year ended June 30 detailing a rise in treated patients and a larger nursing staff. It covers finances with subsidies and donations, staff costs, utilities, drugs, and equipment, plus milestones in patient numbers, outpatient visits, and beds.
The Manilla Municipal Council met Tuesday with Mayor Grill and Aldermen Council to discuss requests. They considered PMG and railway inquiries into Marilla services, taxi licence transfers to L G Barnes, and several appeals and plays center cooperation. Earth removal near Namoi River bridge, caravan living approval, and street works requests were reviewed by the works committee.
Municipal Council met Tuesday and approved leaving street lights on until 3 am on ball nights after a resident requested safer walking for young girls. The decision follows the latest monthly meeting and aims to improve after event safety.
At the Municipal Council meeting Librarian E Stengert reported a donation of five non fiction books to Manilla Regional Library by Captain R Lloyd Jones of Connecticut USA. Entitled Atlantis I Say Sunrise The Perennial Philosophy Creative Personality and Cosmic Consciousness. Enrolments to date are 307 adults and 266 children, total 538.
A letter to the editor criticizes the local sewerage project for rising from £66,000 to £106,000 and predicts burden on ratepayers. The writer urges scrapping the plan, cites nearby Campbelltown as lacking service, and frowns on public spending. He notes outdated town conditions and calls for local leaders to halt perceived rot.
At Friday’s meeting of the Manilla branch four new members were welcomed by President Mrs N Bowman. The new members named include Mesdames de Stratford C Brown and O Mat.
Church of England services at Manilla and Somerton include 7.30 am holy communion and 7.80 pm Evensong. Rushes Creek has 3 pm Evensong. Methodist notices list Manilla 11 am and 7.40 pm sessions, Upper Manilla 9.30 am, Barraba 11 am. Presbyterian Sunday School at 10 am with Manilla Divine Worship at 11 am and 5.30 pm. Halls Creek 30 pm led by Rev. John Mitchell.
Mrs I Miller reported at the Gunnedah Group Council meeting that the Metropolitan Hospital visiting committee was short of washers for patients and had launched an appeal. The council decided to support the appeal and each member was asked to donate.
