Manilla District Hospital Elects New Board Member

At the annual Manilla District Hospital meeting five nominations filled vacancies on the Board for the coming term. Sgt Rowlison joins the board, welcomed by President Hl. V. Dowe, and the committee re elected officers including Mr G. E. Bowman as vice chairman. Financials show government subsidy receipts and hospital distributions rising under the HBA system with totals over previous years. The conference dates were set for October 3 and 4, and plans include installing a slow combustion cooker and canvassing for new HB.A subscribers.

Silver Leaves event reports close scoreline drama

The record notes secretary Mr Macleod in August overseeing a Silver Leaves challenge. In one game B Brady and W Still defeated Blanch and L Bignall 23 to 17 while W Bignall, Sampson and Scott edged Kelly, Carter and Wearne 19 to 18.

Manille Show Committee appoints Stan Shaw to vacancy

At the meeting of the Manille Show Committee on Saturday Mr Stan Shaw was named to fill the vacancy. It is noted that Mrs Warner was the late Mrs M E B Warner and not Mrs A K Warner as previously said. The working balance stood at £471 7s 10d with £1441 1s 11d invested for the Maternity Ward. Matron Davies reported 11 new admissions that month, 60 treated in total, 46 discharged, leaving 14. The daily average was 13 and 16 outdoor patients were treated. Gifts acknowledged included weekly magazines, various items from Miss Coulton, anonymous donors, Misses Mackenzie, Mrs Kennedy, Mr H V Dow, Miss Gallagher, Mrs A Adie, and donations of plants and a car.

Red Cross Visit Promotes War Effort at Manilla Hall

Mr B L Forsyth will address the Red Cross at Memorial Hall Manilla on Saturday afternoon about the aims of the Red Cross during and after the war. The service reports 27,228 miles driven and 2,927 blood bottles delivered, with 16 volunteer drivers and paid night drivers. blood deliveries reach civilian hospitals and rail transport.
