Mandowa Shire Council heard Noxious Weeds Inspector J Berry report on weed control progress. Bathurst Burr and Yellow Daisy were being tackled. Mintweed cleaned up in New Mexico area. emphasis on watershed based control and landowner compliance. Council President Byrnes acknowledged Berry’s service. debate continued on transfer of control to PP Board.

Shire Conference Seeks Noxious Weeds Control Across Watersheds

The Shire Council moved to send a resolution to Conference for watershed noxious weeds control. Dr Heywood supported it, saying it would create a better basis to combat weeds. If allowed to spread to neighboring shires, even strict efforts by one could be nullified by floodwater.

Manilla Club ends night play as June tournament planned

The Committee of Manilla Club halts night games immediately and schedules a June holiday tournament for June 12. The programme will be arranged by the competition committee. A complimentary letter from Adamstown tea manager praises Adams town members for their reception. Match results include several bowling pairings with scores, and Quirindi rink wins the C N D B A Championships 21 to 20 over Gunnedah after trailing 20 to 12 with four ends remaining.

Meteor streak lights Armidale sky near Forglen home

A large meteor burst over Armidale near Forglen at about 11:30 p m last Wednesday. Residents including D A Drummond manager O Del, described it as the largest seen, shooting sparks outward and causing the house to shake after a loud explosion. Witness Fred Mane field of the Armidale Express joined in noting the country lit for miles as the meteor crossed the sky.
