Meter Upgrade Starts In Southwest Town
Work began last week in the southwest section to upgrade gas meters to federal standards. City manager Don Taylor said every meter will be disconnected and inspected, requiring gas off at each meter. Residents must be present to relight pilot lights. after 5 p.m. a crew should be notified if gas is off. City gas and water staff include Gerald Hakill and Neal Morris among others. The program will continue for some time with residential meters checked first and business connections later.

Alumni Banquet Celebrates Fifteenth Year at Quartz Mt Lodge
City View and Midway Alumni Association marked its fifteenth banquet on July 10 at Quartz Mountain State Lodge. Officers named Milton Vaughan president Phillip Williams vice president Edith Davis secretary and Mamie Wilhite treasurer. The oldest attendee received a blue red centerpiece and Jim Castle of Eugene Oregon earned a traveling distance prize. A long list of attendees from Oklahoma and surrounding states attended the event.

Immunization law expands school entry proof in August
Maryanne Fite of Greer County Health Department says a new state law requires all students to show official immunization records before school admission. Children must be vaccinated against diphtheria tetanus pertussis polio rubella and rubeola unless a physician signed exemption form cites health or religious reasons.
