A string of visits across Granite and nearby towns details family gatherings and hospital trips. Local residents hosted relatives from Liberal Kansas to Hobart and Plainview Texas, with openhouse events planned for January 11 and senior luncheon set for Jan. 21 at Mangum.
Granite Christmas eve dinner guests at the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Hogg included their children Mr and Mrs Mike Hogg and Dr and Mrs John Hogg of College Station Texas. Also present were Eva Litton Mangum and Leslie Hogg with the Hoggs' senior parents. Friday evening guests included Ronald Wilhite Jana Norman and the Hoggs with Mrs Litton. Afternoon visitors were Mike Hogg and M Sgt and Mrs Clarence Litton of Wichita Falls Texas.
A fire caused by wiring damaged Cothrums Grocery last Sunday, affecting the office and storage area. Owner Butch Cothrum was in the store and raised the alarm.
Granite-Services for John Harston who died early Sunday morning in the Hobart hospital were held Tuesday, Jan. , at 10 p.m. in the Greer Funeral Chapel. Burial was at 3 p.m. in Pampa, Tex. Granite-Mr. and Mrs. T.R. Hunter had as their recent guests through the holiday season, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hill, Odessa, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. Billy Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Gor man Sewell, Mrs. Jack Johnson, Misses Lucille and Vera Howard, Ed mond, and Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Sewell, Kan. Tom Hunter visited Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tom Hunter and Justin in Hobbs, N.M., and Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Kidd and Amy in Banco, Tex., this past week.
Weekend visitors to Mangum included Mr and Mrs 8 L Zackary with Mr and Mrs B E Embrey and Mr and Mrs Ronnie Embray of Oklahoma City. Mike Spears spoke Sunday at Willow Church of Christ in place of their pastor Richard Winters. Guests from Askew New Years were Glen Pickering, Alan and Terry Nichita Falls Texas. Caroline Breeding Weatherford and Mrs Betty Breeding joined Mrs J B Breeding for Sunday meals. Tammy and Robert Miller of Mangum visited grandparents Louis and Mrs. Simmons in Granite. Ronnie Dean and Wayne Hobart were Sunday guests of her parents and his grandmother E E Dean. Alice Hardwick’s granddaughters Tina and Alisa visited Friday night, joined by their parents Floyd Lee Hardwick and Mrs. Hardwick. John Kauffman and family from Chickasha Lake visited Granite. TOPS club met with seven members. Oletha Jones named star of the week for best weight loss.
Dale Caid hosted Sunday guests Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thornbrough from Sayre. Curt Norman and Ricky returned from Omaha to visit daughter and family Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ennis and Wade. Lloyd Ennis of Lafette and Pauline Moyer of Bartlesville attended. Granite-Jack Cooper of Miami, Fla. came home after visiting relatives including Mrs. J.M. Shirley and Mrs. Gertrude Greaser. Weekend visitors were Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Hoskins of Odessa, Tex. O.K. Burkhalter was released from Mangum city hospital. Mrs. Estell Glidewell, Mrs. Tommy Locklear and Mrs. Cecelia Dean visited W.M. Savage in Mangum nursing home.
A five week series of one night soil fertility short courses for farmers and farm workers starts Tuesday January 20 in Hobart and runs weekly at 7 p.m. The program covers soils nitrogen phosphate potassium and micro nutrients plus fertilizer profitability and recommendations. The course costs $10 to enroll and is led by area extension agronomy agents and OSU agronomists.
