After the second primary the old Democratic Executive Committee of Manatee county ceases. The group conducted six primaries over four years with unpaid members. Chairman Chas. T. Curry led the real work handling ballots and election details with dedicated service.
A former attempt to organize a minstrel show in Manatee is recalled with a cast of local talent ready to perform. The notice cites Emery Johnson Perry Curry Ed Lloyd A C Fancher Rubber Joe Gates and others as capable performers and highlights Curry as a distinguished county Democratic chairman. A lost 14 foot boat is reported with reward offered. the piece lauds Curry’s service and his retirement from the chair.
The Manatee county Democratic Executive Committee met in Bradenton to canvass the second primary returns from June 16. Frank A. Walpole was elected chairman with W. M. Burnett as secretary. a new campaign committee was formed, and oaths of impartial duty were ordered for all members. Precincts 1 through 4 listed as: Willis Palmetto, Hall Rye, Shuman Chicora, Hancock Miakka.
Local notes record C C Cason visiting Tampa Port Tampa and St Petersburg last week, with rain dampening plans. Miss Tasha Thompson visited Jacksonville to see sister Mrs Henry Williams while relatives in Tampa hosted others. E C Saunders returned from Key West and Mary Ellen Sawyer visits Mrs Saunders. The column lists Manatee residents for voting precincts, meat delivery by Turner, Jersey cream ice cream at Manatee Drug Store, and local elections precincts 5 through 18 with names like Walpole Burnett Redd Johnson Fulford Curry Champlaine Saunders Osprey.
