Food costs rise slower than wages over 20 years
In 20 years average wages tripled from 1.52 to 3.65 per hour while food prices rose modestly. If food costs had kept pace with wages, staple items would cost far more and a typical annual farm food bill would jump from 1311 to 2365 dollars. Despite price growth, food’s share of income remains smaller.
