Walter Davidson notes expected further increases as chapters raise funds, with all money used for relief in Japan and no administrative expenses. National Headquarters praises the surge, part of more than 8 million collected across Red Cross divisions.
Street lighting expands with new electroliers at the Stanfard O National Refining Company and Collins Oil filling stations. Mulholland Company installs a pole mounted light in front of their business and more firms plan similar installations this fall.
Yandell Seaton II purchased the residence of Rev. John Wright in Malvern, located in the new east addition. The strictly modern house, only a few years old, sits on well-kept grounds and is expected to suit Mr and Mrs Beaton, with hopes the Wrights will not leave permanently.
Marvin Hastey of the W. L. Summers farm underwent a rare operation by Dr. Donald McCrae removing part of the jaw bone and inserting a new joint. Hastey, plagued by lockjaw for sixteen years, reported improved chewing and hoped to regain full function, with Dr. McCrae performing the procedure without charge. Mrs Farquhar in Omaha, Frank Elder returning from a Merry-Go-Round season, and Greenfield shows where their last stand ended a strong season.
