Commission Appeals Perkins Settlement
Jesse Perkins of Hastings was notified that the Iowa Highway Commission will appeal a $1,000 settlement awarded by condemnation commissioners August 18 for his service station on Highway 34. Perkins had moved his business to Hastings last spring after operating the station previously owned by Alfred Clites and later sold to Otha D Wearin. The commission says Perkins had no interest on the day of condemnation since he occupied the building as a tenant and had moved equipment and inventory to a new location, but the appeal aims to keep the matter open for possible settlement discussions with the department.
