Open House Honors 85th Birthday of Mrs Gertrude McFall

Mrs Gertrude McFall was honored at an open house Sunday at United Methodist Church in Springfield Oregon for her 85th birthday. Nephews and nieces hosted including the Alexander family and Leonors, with corsage of Cymbidium orchids and cake by Mrs Leonard Parker. Sixty friends signed the guest book as gifts and ecards poured in. A correction notes Cecile Robbins was omitted as a hostess for a previous Malvern UMW meeting.

Fall Conference of 7th District Legion at Griswold

The 7th District of the American Legion and Auxiliary meet in Griswold on Sept 1 with hosts Mr. and Mrs. Orval Buswell and others. Registration opens at 8:20 a.m. Events include Service School, committee meetings, Joint Memorial Service, and a noon banquet at the high school gym. A 2 p.m. conference session at City Hall follows, with remarks by District leaders and local officials.

DAR Meeting Highlights at Glenwood Chapter

The Glenwood Daughters of the American Revolution met September 7 at Mrs. Josiah Wearin home with assistance from Mrs. Fred Picker and Mrs. Thomas Gidley. Regent Mrs. Earl Bass initiated new member Mrs. Dale Smith as Allen Wortman Mills county Bicentennial History presented a program titled Proclaim Liberty Throughout the Land.

Mary Ruth Circle Sees Fall Fete at Malvern Church

Mary Ruth Circle of Malvern United Methodist Women met at the church for a September 9 salad luncheon attended by 53 members and guests from Glenwood Hastings Randolph and Malvern. Terry Craig of Fabric Land presented fall fabrics and gifts while guests helped enhance the event. The next meeting will be October 14 at Ruth Darrah's home with co hosts Lois Hering Betty Dunbar and Mary Lou Wearin.

Methodists Celebrate Local Teachers With Sunday Picnic

The United Methodist church will honor teachers Sunday at 5:30 p.m. with a picnic at the Gun Club grounds. Rev. Charles E. Cowell Jr. says the event and morning worship recognize educators' service to the community. Softball and games will be included for all attendees.

Twenty eight Herrick relatives gathered for a Sunday family picnic at Glenwood Lake Park. Attendees included Ethel and Ed Herrick of Underwood, Mr and Mrs Harvey Eustrom of Lansing, Mich, Charlie and Bill Herrick, Eldred Peters and Michael of Council Bluffs, Charles and Dick Kemp with families of Bellevue, Neb, Lee and Bob Wilcox families, Jolene Teehan and son of Glenwood, and Kenneth Scott with Mrs Mae Scott. Loraine Lamm and Jennie Smith joined Mrs Lottie Nielson and granddaughter Gena of Omaha to visit Delbert Madison in New Market.

Silver Cloud 4-H Club Meeting and Outing Report

Silver Cloud 4-H Club met August 23 with Kristi Henderson leading pledges and a grooming talk. A swimming party and wiener roast preceded the meeting at Tammy Wright's. Silver Creek Go Getters met August 28 at 6 30 at Malvern Community building, then traveled to Council Bluffs for supper at Godfather's Pizza followed by recreation at Serv's with mini golf and go carts.
