Volunteers for the Iowa Children’s Home Society begin outreach this week, soliciting support from neighbors to aid in care for children and unwed mothers. The society handled 900 cases last year, placing 159 children in adoptive homes, funded by county fees and private donations across 238 communities. Local volunteers include Mrs Bielva Christoffersen Henderson and other named workers in Emerson Glenwood Makver Malvern Pacifie Junction Grenwood and Makver.
Kensington Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star plans its regular meeting Tuesday September 19 at 8 pm in the Masonic Temple. Past Matrons and Past Patrons will be honored, with plans for the Grand Chapter Session in Des Moines October 12 to be finalized. A separate gathering with Mrs. J A Kline is set for Friday September 15 at 1 pm to discuss projects. attendees are asked to bring old greeting cards and Butter Nut coffee drips.
Miss Sandra Miller daughter of Mr and Mrs Homer Miller and George Barnett of Mabton Washington wed Sept 7 at the Miller home in Omaha in a private ceremony attended by the bride’s parents and grandparents. A second ceremony was held Saturday at First Baptist Church Glenwood officiated by Rev Arthur Marston with family present. The groom is in the army and will be stationed in Germany. the bride will reside in Glenwood.
Miss Donna Porter of Minneapolis Minnesota and Vern Knop of Council Bluffs plan an October wedding at St John’s Lutheran Church. Porter works as a registered laboratory and x ray technician at a Minneapolis clinic. Knop is in charge of bookkeeping and posting at First National Bank in Council Bluffs.
Mrs. Lowell Miller of Malvern, formerly Shirley Moore, was feted at a large prenuptial miscellan eus shower August 30 at Tibor Methodist Church. About fifty guests attended. out of town visitors included Mrs. Charles Moore and Mrs. Louis Miller. Hostesses listed. two games played followed by gift lines. Decorations featured a white heart centerpiece with bells lilies and blue satin accents. Cakes decorated in blue and white were served. Relbert Miller poured the cola.
Pall Mall Club held its meeting at Mrs. Louis Kop’s home with 17 members and one guest. The afternoon featured a program by Hines on an Aston tour in New York and commentary by Mrs. Laverne Space.
Sunday ceremony at Hawthorne Methodist Church united Mayrus Kelley daughter of Mr and Mrs Dwight Kelley of Emerson with Richard Jones son of Mr and Mrs Laurie Jones of Red Oak. Rev Carl Crouse officiated at 3 pm with organ music by Cheryl Shaw.
A baby shower was held at the Louis Lett home Saturday afternoon for Scott Leo, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Arland. Fourteen ladies and several children attended the gathering.
Martha Circle sets a new date for this month and will meet at Nishna Cottage with Geraldine Foster hosting at 8 p.m. on Thursday night, September 14.
The Malvern Band Mothers held their first Fall meeting at Mrs. Bill Barber's home to plan the Band Mothers dinner scheduled for October 8. Members contributing included Mrs. Iva Bell Mrs. Albert Washburn Mrs. Ed Ley Mrs. Robert Thaler with brief attendance by Mrs. August Ponton and Mrs. Leo May.
The Business and Professional Women's club opened the Fall season with a dinner at Hillsdale church. Members discussed plans for new street signs and reported on the BPW state board event in Mason City, where Sean Mason Clel Dickersbach and Marian Jones attended and returned with a briefing.
Malvern Community school faculty and families were honored at a Sunday reception sponsored by the Interchurch Council. The event, hosted by Dr. and Mrs. J. A. Kline and Mr.
Mrs Hanson and Mr Weady preside as teachers are introduced and a brief program unfolds. The high school girls sextet Dixie Bird Cindy Bags Pam Finchem Dru Mon Sharlene Scott Ronda Reel, with Linda Mether, sing with a quartet Virgil Buckelman Bill Gilbert Charles Pevehouse Henry Sch, under Laverne Obrecht and Kenneth Scott. Guests enjoy refreshments served by Mrs Crink and Wortman. Sunday museum hosts Rollin Buffington and Edwin Carter greet visitors at the school house from 1:30 to 6 p.m. with L T Genung assisting.
Miss Carolyn Knapp of Des Moines became the bride of Kenneth Marsden son of Red Oak residents on Sunday September 10 at two o clock in the afternoon. Rev William Fry officiated at the Methodist ceremony with white gladioli and red roses decorations. Bridesmaids wore red brocade satin gowns and carried red rose bouquets. A reception followed in the church parlors with guests and family present.
