Nodal Happenings Hostess Dessert Party Honors Students

Mrs. Ben J. Martin hosted a dessert party last Wednesday honoring her niece Carolyn Harbold of Council Bluffs and nephew Steve Cary of Red Oak as they prepare to depart for college next week. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Marbold and the Fred Harbolds of Council Bluffs, the Davey Hendersons, the Darry Jenkins family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cary of Red Oak, and Mrs. Hazel Lookabill.

Federated Women's Club meeting and Ladies Aid notices

Members of the Mastings Federated Women's Club met Friday at Tk & W Cafe for a 9 o'clock coffee, with 23 present, and heard Mrs Gordon Mulholland present the Heritage of Federation project followed by a brief business session. St John's Ladies Aid announces Sept 9 blood bank service and Sept 28 family night potluck, with LWMS board report Sept 3.

ORS Will Resume Meetings on September 16

Silver Urn Chapter Order of Eastern Star resumes sessions on Tuesday September 16 after summer recess. Members will discuss plans for the annual Grand Chapter and conduct regular business, urging attendance.

Recognize Visitors at Centennial Program Tuesday

Recognition was given to local citizens and former residents who returned for Malvern's centennial in a Tuesday evening program before the parade Echoes of Time. Awards were given to Mrs H T Beattie and F R Chantry for oldest resident and longest time here. Ribbons for longest distance went to West Mrs Katherine Mulholland Gibbs California and Mr and Mrs Herb Hall and Mrs Patsy Gearhart Clay East Emily Lutz Ottumwa South Harlan Foulkes Shawnee Okla North Mrs Frances Strahan Wright Sweat City. Beattie was unable to attend, but had written centennial material read by Mrs James C Others honored spoke briefly of community memories and thanked the organizers.

Centennial Books In Good Demand

Demand for the Centennial book First Hundred Years of Malvern boomed as deliveries began. The 72 page volume, with many pictures of local history and contemporary subjects, features sketches of community organizations churches and citizens. Compiled by a committee led by Louis J. Knop about 1000 copies have been delivered. order now.

East Liberty Church Notes and Harvest Plans

Rev H LeRoy Pullman preached on Feeding the Flock of God at Sunday service. WSCS met in the church with Florence Wilhelm leading a Brazil spelling lesson. No officers present. Mrs Claude Stephens filed reports. Harvest Home and Fall dinner discussed with no dates set. Hostess Mrs Charley Alexander served sandwiches and pumpkin cake. Next meeting planned for Sept 7 with Hazel Wilhelm Florence Wilhelm hosting and Mrs Josie Stolts presenting.

Social visits and family gatherings reported in Council Bluffs Malvern and Henderson

Mrs Phoebe Goodell and Mrs Daisy Bell hosted dinners while visiting Council Bluffs and Malvern with companions including Mrs Glen Fitch and Mr Joe Mayberry. Williams family members visited the Edmundson hospital in Council Bluffs for testing. Keith Wilcox and family toured from Auburn Nebraska. Nearby funeral services were held in Tabor for Mrs A M Scott with relatives from Henderson and Malvern attending. Open house marked a golden wedding anniversary for Mr and Mrs Heilman. additional visits connected the Scott and Alexander families with Emerson and Red Oak communities.

McMillan Spoke at Centennial Service Sunday

Rev. Gordon McMillan of Ottumwa spoke at Malvern's Centennial Week service at the fair grounds. He drew on his memories to illustrate his theme What's Your Perspective and recalled Eisenhower’s courtship as a duty to country. The service featured a community choir directed by Bill Gilbert and was presided by Rev. Clarence Woollard.
