Six people were taken to Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs after a head on crash at four corners north of Malvern at 5:15 p m Friday. R H Malony of Red Oak and his wife 79 sustained serious injuries including crushed knee cap and broken arm. Mrs Malony was thrown through the windshield with facial cuts and two broken legs. The couple are parents of Geo B Malony of Malvern who had invited them to celebrate their 8th wedding anniversary. The condition of the Malonys was listed as satisfactory. Other occupants of the other car Mr and Mrs John Sprague and son and Joe Dale Coons of Glenwood were shaken and bruised. Mrs Sprague had a fractured jaw and all were released that night except Mrs Sprague. Sprague runs the White City service station in Glenwood.
A near head on collision on state highway 242 near the Silver City cemetery injured four, two severely. Richard Springer, 16, and Heginald Vendrix, 39, were in separate vehicles. James Springer, Richard’s brother, suffered head and face lacerations and a fractured wrist. Hendrix and his father J I Hendrix were treated for chest and back injuries and left ear lacerations at Mercy hospital in Council Bluffs.
Five Mills county residents answered the draft call and reported to the Omaha recruiting station for orders. named are Donald Houser of Malvern Paul Hixson and Russell Good of Glenwood Elvan Lincoln of Pacific Junction and Ralph Retslaff, previously employed in Lincoln Nebraska.
Helen Morris 17 of Tabor died in a Council Bluffs hospital from injuries after a car missed a turn near the Tom Davis farm five miles south of Malvern last Wednesday evening. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Morris, she was a Randolph High School graduate. Funeral services tentatively set for Saturday with Reeves Funeral Home in charge.
Mills county Farm Bureau elected officers and adopted annual resolutions at the Malvern Community building. Debate dominated the evening as members, led by Gordon Steiner, edited proposals on school financing local control and road funding. They endorsed small dam conservation, a presidential primary, stricter labor enforcement, and a toll road financed by user revenue.

September tax collections climbed about $50,000 from last year with total taxes reaching $322,298.73. State soldier exemption income of $4,497.82 and homestead credit of $47,811.38 push the month’s tax revenue to $384,607.93, to be distributed within 10 days to schools towns and county funds.
Mills county 4 H members excel at the 1952 Ak Sar Ben stock show with 22 baby beeves and 9 dairy heifers exhibited. Winners include Dyle Downing Eleanor Buch Pat Bourns Brown Swiss blue ribbons for Holstein and milking Shorthorn, and multiple red white ribbons across Hereford Angus Shorthorn with named exhibitors.
Noel Bissell district scout executive presided over a Malvern Court of Honor in the Community building last Thursday. Experts identify 40 pound tooth and bone pile near the Nishna river bed as mammoth remains. Walter Murphy unearthed the find with a power shovel while digging a bridge approach beside Highway 34. The cache includes skull sections tusk fragments and teeth dating to about 200 000 years ago.
Doris Beckwith was named librarian at the Malvern library board meeting on Tuesday. She will replace Mrs. Orville Starr who recently resigned, with Miss Mye Churchill acting librarian since October. The board also decided not to insulate the roof or install a new furnace this season.

County Auditor Eleanor Mitchell announced the first day for absentee ballot applications with ninety five requests. The office will issue soldier ballots starting September 1 and voters away on trips may cast ballots at the office after October 20 before the election day.
A four point buck was killed on Highway 34 two miles east of Glenwood around 5 a.m. Monday. Fisher of St. Joseph, Me., struck the 200 yard animal with his truck. The deer was taken to the state scheme in Glenwood and skinned.
Mrs. J. C. Houghton Jr. of Red Oak spoke at a Malvern Community Building gathering marking Eisenhower's birthday. She, former general federation leader, urged GOP unity, criticized Democratic foreign policy, and cited ECA as check on communism while calling for a government “from the court house to the White House.” Roscon Greenwood introduced candidates. party followed the speech.
