Glenwood weighs in on a new band project led by Prof Benincosa the band master. Weekly or tri weekly meetings are planned with three cornets drums tuba alto trombone and baritone already provided. A practice room is rented in the Mellor building and more players are expected. Enthusiasm runs high for a quality community band if well managed.

Shorthorns Sold in Big South Omaha Sale
George 8 White of Deer Creek attended the South Omaha stockyards Shorthorn sale and purchased four head. The leading buy was a Scotch bull at 1050 dollars. An Ames Agricultural college representative arranged to fit the bull for the International Chicago show at no cost to White, enhancing his already good herd.

The lecture course committee has arranged the coming season with splendid attractions. Season tickets will be well spent by investors. Planned events include Dr. Thomas McClary on October 30 and performances by the Colonial Saxophone Quartette Emily Waterman Concert Company Hon J G Camp and the Salisbury Orchestra with dates to be announced later.

Death of Rev Phillip Surface long-time United Brethren minister
Rev Phillip Surface died at his home two miles southwest of Villisca on September 23 after a summer of declining health. Born January 6, 1841 near Crawfordsville Indiana, he served as a circuit preacher for the United Brethren church for 26 years after ordination at 33. He retired 12 years ago and lived on the Ash farm southwest of town. Funeral at the Methodist church, Villisca, conducted by Rev George Culvert of Clarinda, with interment in Villisca cemetery.

Frappé and wafers were served. a graphophone provided music. games included a blindfold pig drawing, gum modeling, and a name finding contest amid light entertainment.
