Four Million In State's Hands On Roads Program
The Good Roads Association notes a shift on November 30 when road control and the road development fund move to the state highway commission. About 4 million of the 11.5 million primary road funds will be spent at the commission's discretion, with the remaining 7.5 million apportioned to counties. The change centralizes maintenance and aims to secure federal aid, while counties facing costly terrain may benefit from statewide planning and bond-backed improvements. The program shapes debate for upcoming legislative races as candidates are pressed on mud road positions.
