Shotgun Deer Season Opens in November 1922

Licensed deer hunters are reminded by the Tow Conservation Commission that the mid point of Iowa's deer season has been reached. The 1965 permitHolder count was 17,500 with 6,348 white tails harvested. The shotgun season begins at a.m. November 19 in both the short and long lanes, closing at 4 p.m. November 20 in Zone 1 and at the same hour November 22 in Zone 2. This year only long or short toe areas are valid. The Commission issued 28,100 licenses for two and four day seasons. Zone 1 uses 3,000 and Zone 2 uses 25,000. About 21,008 applied, a drop from the 1964 peak due to weather factors. A spokesman cited recent rain and snow as contributing factors.
